Thanks tooth.
Oh for the love of--!

Just my luck =| The day before we leave, one of my crowns decides to chip. I CAN'T EXACTLY SCHEDULE AN EMERGENCY DENTIST APPOINTMENT HERE, THANKS TOOTH.

At least it's not a very bad chip. I can't feel anything through it yet or anything, so uhh I think I'm safe 'til we get back from AX. I guess I should make an appointment now though, sigh.

God I'm not looking forward to getting a crown replaced.

[Edit] Called Mom, got the dentist info, gonna call during the train ride tomorrow and make an appointment.

New addition
I was gonna make a longer post about this but I wanted to have pictures and well no camera!

BUT a few days ago somebody on [info]sacramento posted that they found a stray kitten and couldn't keep him so, long story short, my gramma's house now has SEVEN cats!

He's a grey tabby, TINY (looks like 5-6mos even though the vet said he was a year old), missing his left eye with trauma to the right (kind of looks like a film over his eye, not quite resembling a cataract but something like it), with a subtle crook in the end of his tail. He is CUDDLY AS ANYTHING and will cling to you when you pick him up, FLING himself against you and curl up to sleep, and of course like all kittens MERCILESSLY ATTACK YOUR ARM when you move in to pet him. My arms are covered in scratches BUT HE'S SO CUTE T_____T

Vet said his eye was surgically removed so we don't know why it's missing. He has vision and responds to visual cues, but I think he's nearsighted because he seems to rely a lot more on smell and hearing (when exploring new areas he sniffs constantly and when sitting still his ears are always twitching subtly from side to side). He also seems to have an issue with high spots and doesn't like jumping anywhere (overly cautious, more likely to put his front paws on the object and lift himself instead).

But like I said he's super cuddly and adorable and I think he's TOTALLY AWESOME.

His name is Aristophanes, or Ari for short.

(I already named a minor AC char after him lol wut =< Aristophanes is the name of the airship captain who is, of course, also missing his left eye. TAKE INSPIRATION WHERE YOU CAN FIND IT.)

Beyond Lunch
Hey guys, check this out! My good buddy Slinkoboy has made a game! I've played it and I gotta say, it's pretty entertaining! It's RPGmaker but he has drawn all the sprites, all the tiles, all the maps, written all the music himself, customized everything, and basically pushed RPGmaker to it's limits with this thing. You should at do him a favour and at least check it out. Something with this much work put into it deserves at least a cursory glance. Download, play, let him know what you think!

Rice-Boy - the end of an era
You guys. Rice-Boy has ended today.

I can't say enough about this comic. The story is haunting and beautiful and the end was just...moving beyond words.

If you haven't read it yet, now's the perfect time to. You'll get the entire story without having to wait for any updates. And honestly, it's well worth however long it takes you to read. So, I highly recommend grabbing some free time and sitting down with Rice-Boy for a while. It will impress.

The very first thing I'm putting my paycheck toward is purchasing print copies of this story, most definitely.

This is for a paper I promise.
Hey guys, let's talk about ASSASSINATION!

Please, pick apart this conceptual analysis and tell me what confuses you or if you see any holes in it. Try to give me counter-examples so I can tighten up the wording and know where my logic falters. Tell me if there are any terms in the analysis that need to be defined before the analysis is entirely clear. If it doesn't jive with your definition, explain why (maybe something is left out here or too much is included). Basically, discuss this with me, whether you agree or disagree with the definition I've given.

"An assassination is the [covertly performed]1 targeted killing of a high-profile individual committed2 for political or ideological reasons."

1 First edit
2 Second edit, removed for redundancy

[Edit] Definitions of terms:

"Covertly performed" means that it is not performed in the open and that the assassin has taken measures to hide herself in some manner. "Targeted killing" means that the victim was the intended victim and that the victim was not chosen at random; it also implies that some degree of planning went into the killing.

Musing on grammar.
Is it actually grammatically correct to use "whose" as a possessive pronouns for an inanimate thing? I mean, people do it ALL THE TIME, but it always bugs me SO MUCH whenever I see it. It just doesn't seem like it's accurate! Like you would say, "the box which sits on my desk," and not, "the box who sits on my desk." So why do people say things like, "the box whose lid won't open"? Unfortunately which's isn't really a word either so I'm always stuck rewording these things into something more like "the box which has a lid that won't open."

Is "whose" actually gramatically accurate here at all? It just seems so weird because, you know, a box is not a who. You wouldn't say, "Katherine which was my best friend," you'd say, "Katherine who was my best friend." So why is the box different from the Katherine?

idk, just some random musing because I ended up writing a sentence that I consciously had to write around a "whose" for, involving an island city which has tourism as a source of income (rather than "whose source of income is tourism").

Quoted from [info]mesna
http://www.luclatulippe.com/2008/04/18/book-publisher-in-china-plagiarizes-and-steals-illustration
http://apefluff.com/colorful-illustrations-93c-please-do-not-buy-this-book/

Long story short, a company in Hong Kong is ripping art and blog posts off the internet, slapping a cover on them, and selling the result for $100.

The company in question is the Great Creativity organization
Book Title: Colorful Illustrations 24 C

The phone number and ISBN are fakes.

Those involved have asked that we spread the word, flooding the internet with bad press for the company. The distributors currently refuse to pull the book, but what choice will they have if EVERYONE knows that the book is plagiarized?

Thank you for any help you can give.

Orphan Works Act
American artist friends, I would like to direct your attention to this post, wherein [info]neonclover speaks of some upcoming legislation called the Orphan Works Act. It is of interest to all of you artists because it deals with rights to your own works! Please read up on it and take action if it worries you.

Surprised I'm still alive.
So I was walking to my car after class and I took a shortcut through the tall grass.

Guys.

Never take a shortcut through the tall grass, okay? I lost like half my money and passed out, it was seriously not cool.

Stolen from Bethica!
Pick a character of mine, then go here to generate 5 random numbers between 1 & 100. Comment with the character name and the five numbers, and I'll answer the five corresponding questions from this list.

multiples allowed.

Any character goes! RP, AC, OJD, EVEN ETWAS IF YOU'RE SO INCLINED BUGLE. Basically any character of mine you may have heard a name for and might be curious about, you can ask about 'em.

[Edit] I'd like to throw in that you can also ask multiple questions of the same character, as long as you make sure you're not coinciding numbers with a previous inquiry =o

Writer's Block: Neurotic Behavior

What is the one thing you're most neurotic about?

Cleanliness. Oddly I'm a very slovenly person, but I have things sectioned off in my head as either clean or dirty. If I touch something dirty I have to wash my hands before I can touch something clean or that clean thing then becomes dirty.

This is complicated, actually. Like, my computer is clean (despite how dirty it honestly is), and most things in my room and in my possession are clean. Pretty much the entire rest of my grandmother's house is dirty, I can't walk barefoot on her floor (and conversely I have to take my shoes off when I enter my room to avoid making my own floor dirty).

It's actually kind of an arbitrary line. It falls wherever my subconscious decides it falls. Sometimes I'll actually really think about it and realize EVERYTHING is dirty and I can't touch ANYTHING without contamination.

I try to ignore most of this because I know it's irrational, but sometimes I just can't escape it.
